Virgil Wayne Morris, 80, of Orleans passed away Thursday, June 29, 2006.
Virgil was born on July 3, 1925, at the family home, rural Fenwick. He was the
13th of 17 children born to Wilmer C. and Grace (Baker) Morris. He attended
the Barnes school and Sheridan High School. He is survived by his wife of 62
years, Marian (Haynor) Morris, whom he married on April 8, 1944 and their
three children, Cheryl (Herb) Haines of rural Lowell, David LaVern Morris of
rural Orleans and Kathriann Petersen of rural Greenville. Seven grand children
and six great grand children; four brothers; Earle, Wilmer, Fred, Robert and
four sisters; Inez Walsh, Phyllis Stearns, Alice Childs and Caroline Sage, and
many many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four
brothers; Homer, Orval, Claire, Hartley and four sisters; Esther Wilson, Elsie
Reed, Gladys Blumenstein and Laura "Dora" Parks. Wayne was mechanically gifted
and served his family, friends, and neighbors by fixing their lawn mowers,
roto tillers, yard tractors and chain saws. He loved to fish. Wayne served
with the Navy Sea Bee’s, the 93rd NCB. He was stationed at Samor Island
station in the Phillipines and discharged on April 18, 1946 from Great Lakes
Naval Station. He was a life member of Sheridan VFW Post # 05065. Wayne served
on the Board of Shiloh School and also on the Board of Shiloh Community
Church. He worked as a Milk Hauler, factory worker, semi driver for Associated
Truck Lines along with the Department of Corrections. He retired from
Riverside Correctional after 32 years of service in the Ionia Prison system.
After his retirement Wayne and Marian built a small vacation home at Lake
Como, Florida where they greatly enjoyed twenty-five winters.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm at
Shiloh Community Church. Funeral services will be Monday 11:00AM at Shiloh
Community Church with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Memorials may be given to
Ionia Area Hospice or Shiloh Community Church. Funeral Arrangements have been
